The Dodgers and Diamondbacks are playing down in Australia in late March, so they’ve both sent reps ahead of time to basically do PR and take an vacation.
This has made Kirk Gibson angry at the Dodgers for no real reason, which means I’m guessing Kevin Towers told him to do it.
“I’ll give you an example,” Gibson said. “Look at the guys who went down (on a goodwill tour of) Australia for us. Why did they do it? It’s who we are. It’s who the Diamondbacks are. We’re committed to the game of baseball. We’re committed to the community. I’ll put our organization up against anybody’s in terms of doing the right thing.
“We had Goldy go down there, along with Patrick Corbin and Derrick Hall, our president and CEO. Who’s the other team got down there? Are they too (expletive) good? Honestly?”
Like … what?
1) You’re essentially calling A.J. Ellis a crappy player, which I assume is a ‘classy’ thing to do for those who have gritty traits. And I assume Patrick Corbin is some type of phenom and the face of American baseball or something. Besides, A.J. probably IS the best representative for the Dodgers in terms of PR.
2) It’s November and you’ve reduced yourself to denigrating the efforts of the Dodgers in sending a PR rep to a foreign country. This is what you’re going to get hyped about? What is life? Seriously.
3) Clayton Kershaw is in Africa. Yasiel Puig is DESTROYING THE GAME by working with kids. Matt Kemp is recovering from surgery. Hyun Jin Ryu is back in Korea, probably de-stressing from being around insane Americans. I mean, I guess they could send Adrian Gonzalez, but he’s busy in Disneyland with his daughter, and who else would even be recognizable? Do you really want Zack Greinke doing PR for your franchise? Good lord.
This is … this is … it’s all so dumb.
And it’s tiresome.
You want to get revenge on the Dodgers? Beat them in 2014. But for the love of god, stop embarrassing yourself with this faux macho BS press tour. Even your own fans aren’t buying it.
