Dodgers minor-league pitchers Pedro Baez and Jarret Martin will head to the Arizona Fall League for the Glendale Desert Dogs to replace pitchers Onelki Garcia and Shawn Tolleson.
Baez, if you remember, was recently converted to pitcher from third base and reached AA in 2013, putting up a 3.63 ERA in high-A and a 4.24 ERA in AA. Martin was acquired via trade from the Orioles for Dana Eveland and was moved to the bullpen for the second half of the season. He reached AA in that role, posting a 4.79 ERA as a starter but a 2.73 ERA in relief.
While it would have been nice for Onelki and Tolleson to get fall work in, I think it’s infinitely more interesting to get a look at Baez and Martin in their new roles against advanced competition.
The other six members of the Desert Dogs from the Dodgers’ organization remain the same, with Yimi Garcia, Michael Thomas, Pratt Maynard, Chris O’Brien, Corey Seager, and Brian Cavazos Galvez headed to the AFL.
As always, I’ll try to secure short interviews with some of them. Stay tuned.
