The Rangers are favorites to land Zack Greinke, according to Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register.
For what it’s worth, I was told today the #Rangers are the favorites for Greinke. It could all just be posturing now. Wait and see.
That goes against what Jim Bowden of ESPN said though.
Los Angeles Dodgers are considered the front runner for Zack Greinke according to source with knowledge of the negotiations…. but NOT over
Of course, while Bowden is a former GM, he doesn’t come off as much of a reporter, and all the hype about Greinke to the Dodgers does seem a bit trumped up out of nowhere.
As I’ve stated before though, to any Dodger fan, he has to be the top choice of the off-season.

Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports reports that Brian Wilson‘s first choice after the Giants is … the Dodgers.
Hearing Brian Wilson’s first choice to pitch in 2012 — outside of SF — is for the Dodgers. He lives in LA during offseason.
Rather than do any analysis of this, I’m just going to say that this would be a nightmare.
I don’t care if it’s a good price or not, just … ugh. No.

Mark Saxon of ESPN Los Angeles reports that the Dodgers have interest in Kyle Lohse.
Source: Dodgers showing interest in Kyle Lohse
I’d take this with a grain of salt since there’s no support for it elsewhere and because he also said Hiroki Kuroda was going somewhere in Los Angeles and that the Dodgers approached Torii Hunter with a two-year deal.
Needless to say, if the Dodgers payroll is what it’s rumored to be, this would be an utterly confusing signing.
Chad Moriyama Dodgers, Sabermetrics, Scouting
Chad, carrying over the conversation from the last post, I believe that the Angels are actually shopping Walden. His situation and perception with his current team is eerily similar to Guerra. Pre-arb closers that struggled with command and effectiveness, booted from the closer role, demoted for a short time, but being more effective than what is perceived. I know you have repeatedly argued on this site that Guerra had a quality season and is a quality option going forward, but the feeling around the Dodger fanbase is that he is rather expendable. I’m not agreeing or disagreeing, just stating that Walden’s situation is similar and wondering if he could be a buy-low option.
I think we have enough relievers. Why give up anyone to get another? As it currently stands, we have Jansen, Belisario, and League for the late innings. Guerra for the middle innings, Elbert and Rodriguez for lefty vs lefty, and Guerrier for mop-up duty and/or trade bait for some GM who’s dumber than Ned (albeit there might be only one or two in MLB). We still have Tolleson, Wall, and Ames in case anyone goes down, and we might sign that really good 32-year old Japanese closer. No need to give up a potentially valuable future trade piece in order to acquire a reliever who won’t start out as one of our three back-end guys.
Actually, after I posted my comment, I read MSTI’s post today that suggested Cap or Harang for Walden. And I agree 100% that we have enough relievers, but I’m not the GM and it seems inevitable that Ned will try to acquire one more RH reliever. So why not Walden? I honestly don’t think it will require a valuable piece to get him.
I guess. I don’t see the value in trading for either of those two though.
If they want to do it, that’s fine by me.
Looks like the Angels traded Walton for a guy whose arm seems dangerously close to falling off. Why not trade Capuano and/or Harang for mid-level prospects?
Tommy Hanson is under team control for four years.
Why not trade them? Dunno, I have no problem with it. Does any team want to trade for them right now though? Doubt it. They will after the free agents start signing though.
Right, but I’m just saying that I don’t see why trading for him would be worth it over just spending money on superior options.
There is only room for 1 beard in Los Angeles at a time and Bills has currently taken up that mantle. Dodgers fans already had to suffer through rooting for old enemy Victorino but at least he came from the Dodgers farm system…having to root for Wilson would be even worse. I’d rather watch rookies develop in the pen and be able to watch them grow then to have to watch that ridiculous black beard stepping up to the mound in Dodger blue. Just say no Ned.
