Peter O’Malley out of Los Angeles Dodgers ownership sweepstakes, Bill Shaikin reports

Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports that Peter O’Malley has been eliminated from the Los Angeles Dodgers ownership bidding.

Peter O’Malley has withdrawn his bid to buy the Dodgers, two people familiar with the sale process said Tuesday.

The decision means the O’Malley family will not reclaim the stewardship of the team it owned for nearly half a century, a span during which the Dodgers won all six of their World Series championships.

O’Malley declined to comment. The people who confirmed the decision were not authorized to discuss it publicly.

If true that means there are ten bidders left in the running: Magic Johnson/Stan Kasten, Joe Torre/Rick Caruso, Steven Cohen/Arn Tellem, Stan Kroenke, Tony Ressler, Leo Hindery/Tom Barrack, Stanley Gold/Disney Family, Jared Kushner, Michael Heisley, and Alan Casden.

  1. I think the same report also mentions that Blackstone intends to cut the total number of bidders to pass onto MLB for approval down to 5.

My thoughts on O’Malley has always been that he was born on third while everybody else seems to think he hit a triple. He was a tolerably decent steward of the team and they won a few things under him but O’Malley was the catalyst who set this whole sorry chain of affairs with his selling of the Dodgers to Fox.

    • Can’t wait until just the contenders are left. :o

      • I assume once the MLB decision is done, the decision should be made in fairly short order since I’d assume McCourt wouldn’t let anybody he wouldn’t later approve be submitted to MLB.

I’d also assume that terms of the bids are final once they go to MLB…
