Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports that Time Warner Cable is interested in pursuing a bid on the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Of all the parties that might like to buy the team — a distinguished group that includes Magic Johnson, Peter O’Malley, Mark Cuban, Joe Torre and Dennis Gilbert — the party with the most urgent need to buy the team might be Time Warner Cable.
Time Warner Cable and the Lakers are set to launch two cable channels later this year, one in English and one in Spanish. The Angels have reached a new, long-term deal with Fox Sports, leaving the Dodgers as the one baseball team in town available for live summer programming on the TWC channels.
“The Los Angeles Dodgers are at the top of that wish list,” TWC Sports President David Rone told Sports Business Daily in November.
With a court preventing the Dodgers from selling their television rights — at least for now — Time Warner Cable could seek to buy the team outright.
A perfect example of the idiom “fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me”.
Or as Rob McMillin put it:
