Los Angeles Dodgers Sign Tony Gwynn Jr. To 2 Year/$2 Million Contract

The Los Angeles Dodgers have announced today (December 12th) that they have signed Tony Gwynn Jr. to a two-year contract. Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times reports that he will earn $850k in 2012 and $1.15 million in 2013.

I’ll do analysis later, but he’s basically a replacement level type player. Granted, he’ll be hard pressed to not live up to the contract given playing time, but he was bordering on not being tendered a contract and the Dodgers gave him a two-year deal.

Everybody is getting two-year deals in Ned Colletti‘s attempt to make sure the Dodgers don’t compete until 2014 at the earliest.

After the Kemp extension, this is Ned’s second best move of the postseason. I don’t mind getting Gwynn back on a two-year, $2 million contract.

  2. Yeah, middle of last season I was blabbing that the Dodgers wouldn’t be able to turn things around until 2013, once a bunch of the dead weight contracts finally come off the books. Ned is definitely making sure that is prolonged another year. I don’t understand how he’s got any ability to sign players to 2 year contracts. You’d think MLB would’ve been smart enough to put a leash on the moron in that respect, until new ownership steps in. Who cares if they’d have sucked for another half season to a season…would be better than them sucking for 2 seasons the way he’s setting things up now. I fucking hate Ned Colletti and I can’t really say that about anyone else on the planet, except possibly Frank McCourt. At least with McCourt it was a lifestyle thing. With Colletti it’s just a buffoon thing.

    • lol

You dislike him way more than me.

      • I think part of my problem is that I don’t have any other team in any other sport, so all of my interest goes towards the Dodgers. I play fantasy football, but could really care less about any of the teams since LA is football-less. Haven’t been able to stomach basketball since the Kobe/Shaq soap opera and I like hockey but can’t devote the time to watching it regularly…same with soccer. So my only recreation is being controlled by Colletti and McCourt. Needless to say, I’m kind of bitter, lol.
