Matt Kemp Joins 30/30 Club & Vin Scully Returns In 2012

Matt Kemp, one of the few bright spots in this dreary season, impressively boomed into the 30/30 club today. In doing so, he became the second Dodger in the club, with the other of course being Raul Mondesi, who accomplished the feat in 1997 and 1999.

The difference being that Kemp has done it far earlier than Mondesi, and far earlier than most, becoming the 11th fastest member of the 30/30 club.

With more than a month to go in the season, just how real are his chances of getting to 40/40? Well, he’ll have to get a bit hot, as he’s currently on pace for 37 homers and 41 steals, but it’s not out of the realm of possibility.

To think that 12 months ago Dodgers fans were wondering if they could get anything of value for Kemp in a trade.

Perhaps most importantly though, Vin Scully announced that he will return in 2012!

He later told this to Dylan Hernandez: “I hate to make a big deal out of it. I’m not trying to be a Brett Favre or whoever else.

No problem for me, because Favre is a douchebag and Vin isn’t.

I rarely care about sentimental stuff, but Vin retiring after this miserable on the field season and absolutely humiliating off the field season would be the worst possible way I can imagine sending him off, so I’m glad he’s back.

Those fans literally crying with joy over his return might need to relax a bit though.

  1. Congratulations to Matty! I’m glad for him…
I wonder if those Dodger fans from last season, still want him traded… smh

  2. Vin’s return next year makes this season more bearable. Even though Kemp going 40/40 during an overall pathetic season will sting quite a bit, I really hope he does it. Just sucks he and Kershaw are hitting their strides while ownership has the team floundering as a whole. I was still glad to see Kemp get the start in the ASG as he deserved. Just wish some news would start circulating again about what the heck is going on with the ownership issues. For all the bad press, at least it seemed like we were moving closer to getting McCourt out. Now it just seems like nothing is going on at all and yet the team continues to be run into the ground. My hope is things can be resolved and the team can be moving in the right direction by 2013. At this pace, not so sure that’s gonna be possible.
